Our dear friend, Matt Hipps, is running the race of a lifetime. A cancer survivor, dedicated father and generous soul, Matt is proving that he cannot be stopped! He is putting all of his own struggles aside to run the biggest race of his life. And he has chosen to run for Zubin’s Wish!! We are incredibly grateful and so very proud of what this symbolizes for him as well as DMD. Matt is running for all the boys who cannot run. Matt is running to show we can have hope in the face of anything life presents to us. Matt is running to make sure that we get a cure for DMD! Steve, Zubin’s father, will ride from Seattle to Portland in one day! Yes, that’s right–204 miles in one day! This is the crazy kind of thing you do when you are running a race for life, for Zubin’s Life, for all boys’ lives with DMD. You ride as far as you can, hoping others will sponsor you and make a difference this year as we fund trials for lifesaving treatments. So please join the race! Help Steve get to his goal of $10000 this year! In the past, he has raised $5000 by doing this ride in two days. This year, he hopes to double his fundraising by doubling his efforts. March 27th is a milestone for Tanmeet Sethi, Zubin’s mom. She turns 40 on that day and to celebrate her life as well as honor her son’s, she is doing a fundraiser for Zubin’s Wish. See, all she really wants for her birthday is for her son to have the life he deserves. She wants him to walk, run, and live! She wants a cure for DMD. So on this auspicious occasion, find it in your heart to gift her the most important birthday gift you can give this year. Think about a donation of $40 or a multiple there of all the way up to $400. And give her and all boys with DMD the gift of a lifetime!
This is timely as we finish a funding drive for an exciting new trial and hopeful anti-fibrotic molecule, halofuginone. We are teaming up with other family DMD foundations to make this drug a reality and get it through the trials needed to make it available to our boys. People gathered to dance, drink, eat, and celebrate with purpose-the purpose of ending the tragedy of DMD for boys everywhere! It was a wonderful night and Zubin’s Wish raised over $38,000!! Zubin’s Wish Bollywood themed auction fundraiser with food and cocktails funded by our donors and corporate sponsor, Onskreen was a huge success! We had an energetic crowd dancing to the tunes of DJ Vinit! It was a huge success thanks to the many volunteers, donors, supporters and amazing energy in the room. We raised over $17,000 without matching donations counted!!! This proved that we can come together as a community and make change!
Steve Olivar, Zubin's father, is riding his bike from Seattle to Vancouver to raise funds for Zubin's Wish. This year, we are participating in the Pilot Trials Now initiative which is working to find already FDA-approved drugs that can help boys with DMD. This will circumvent the administrative struggles that we have with other research on new drugs and hopefully find some treatments for boys with DMD. Update: Steve rode UPHILL from Seattle to Vancouver on and thanks to generous support, raised almost $5000 for research this year! He is incredibly grateful for this outpouring and felt emotional as he rode for Zubin and all the boys with DMD… “At times the ride gets pretty emotional for me as I think about why I am riding and what the future holds for Zubin and my entire family. Its times like this that I am grateful to have all of you to draw energy from to continue turning the pedals both on the bike and in my life.”
Sandeep Aiyer had a very creative and generous way to raise money for us. He rode the MS 150 ride from Houston to Austin! In his quest for donations from friends and family to fight MS, he pledged to match every $2 with $1 of his own for Zubin’s Wish. And in this way, he donated $1000 to Zubin’s Wish!!! He also raised awareness for DMD and brought new supporters to us. We are so thankful for his generosity!
We are so grateful to Heather for running the Bellingham Marathon for Zubin’s Wish!! Heather said she was inspired to make it through for all the boys with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. We are so thankful for her generosity, all the funds raised, and for her commitment to run for all the boys who cannot. Heather, we love you!
